There are four of us getting off a river boat in December and needing to travel to Prague. We are interested in hiring a car and driver to take us. Any recommendations for drivers or companies?

I highly recommend Michal from Real Prague Tours, who does transfers with sightseeing stops. He has a new, comfortable van for transport. You could work in a stop along the way like Pilsen. He's in his mid 30's -- personable, pleasant, native Czech -- willing to share his experience of Czech life along the way (and his parents' experience of Czechoslovak life in Communist times). He was the best of 7 guides I used during a recent 8-day stay in Prague. Highly recommended!

Just a hint - but there is a direct train from Regensburg to Prague. I took it last year - a bit older, but generally nice. In particular if you are planning to stay the night in Prague, whence you can hire a guide there, it is a perfectly viable option. Not much slower than by car, if google maps is accurate, and runs at worst every two hours…
