Getting from Frankfurt airport to Bamberg, Germany

What's the best/most efficient/easiest way to get from the Frankfurt Airport to Bamberg, Germany? My wife and I will be traveling in early April from the US to start a tour in Bamberg.

German Railways (DB) website: https://int.bahn.de/en/

From: FRA Frankfurt Airport
To: Bamberg

The fastest journeys you will find there will take 2.75 hrs. or so; you will catch any ICE train at the airport's Fernbahnhof station and will have one change of train in Würzburg to a RE (regional express) train.

Standard (flex) fare is around €70 each. You can buy the flex fare at the airport station at that price, or in advance, at the same price. This fare lets you use ANY ICE train from FRA, no matter how late or early your flight might be.

You can ask about "rail and fly" tickets from your airline. These are discounted tickets that also offer time flexibility.

The cheaper saver fares you may find at DB are non-refundable.

ALTERNATIVE... RIDE THE REGIONAL TRAINS ONLY:

Click on "local transport only" before your search. This will make your trip (by regional trains) a few minutes longer... but it will be totally time-flexible and save you money. The best journeys will have a change in Hanau or possibly Frankfurt. Travel on Saturday or Sunday, or after 9 am weekdays, will cost just €59/2 (day pass for Germany, "Quer durchs Land" ticket.) No advance purchase is needed or advisable as this ticket is non-refundable. The regional trains for this ticket leave FRA airport's "Regionalbahnhof" station (a 2nd station right at the airport.)

The train is the obvious choice.

Use the Deutsche Bahn site https://int.bahn.de/en to look for options.

The dilemma will be, do you buy cheap fast train tickets and have to estimate what time to buy for? Just buy a full price ticket once there? Stick to regional trains, so buy tickets there?

The fastest option is usually only fast to Wurzburg, then an hour on a regional train to Bamberg. That gets you there in just under 3 hours. If you stick to regional trains only, then you get there in just under 3 1/2 hours. If it were me, I'd probably take the regional trains, and buy tickets there, or more likely I would have a D-Ticket anyway. Given the cost of the train ticket, and the need for the buses in Bamberg, that would pretty much pay for the 58 euro D-Ticket.

There are two stations at the airport, Frankfurt Flughafen for the fast ICE trains, and Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbf for the regional and S-Bahn trains. They are near each other, but you do need to know which one you need to be in.

Just to nitpick, the Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbahnhof is for fast ICE trains and the Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Regionalbahnhof is for regional trains and S-Bahns.
