My husband, my daughter and her husband and myself are planning a 12 day trip to Germany in October 2027. I have an itinerary where I have included home bases, train times and days/nights stay. Any advice or suggestions on making this itinerary smoother or more enjoyable would be appreciated. We are interested in seeing fairytale castles, Alpine scenery, medieval villages, wine country and scenic drives at a relaxed pace. Maybe throw in a couple of museums such as Dachau in Munich.
Fly into Frankfurt. Take high-speed ICE train to Munich: 3 1/2 hours;
Day 1-2: Munich: 2 nights - home-base: Munich;
Day 3-4 Salzburg: 2 nights- home-base: Salzburg: train from Munich to Salzburg 1 1/2 hours;
Day 5-7: Garmish Partenkirchen: 3 nights- home base: Fussen: train from Salzburg to GP 3 hours;
Day 8-9: Koblenz: 2 nights-home base: Koblenz: train from GP to Koblenz 6 1/2 hours;
Day 10-11: Cologne: 2 nights-home base: Cologne: train from Koblenz to Cologne 1 hour;
Day 12: Fly home
this is still a rough draft so any help regarding sites I may be missing or shorter train rides or different trajectory would be appreciated. Thank you so much.
