germany trip this month

Hi

I'm thinking of doing a 8 night Germany trip this month, I'm thinking of spending 4/5 nights in Berlin and 3/4 nights in Munich.
I will be travelling from London and I love history, architecture, nature, good food and just generally exploring.
I think I definitely want to do Berlin but wasn't sure about adding Munich to the trip. If anyone has any other suggestions I would be open too!
Thanks so much!!!

You might stop at a nice town like Bamberg on the way to Munich. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, for what that is worth. Lots of medieval architecture, Rauchbier.

Or Nuremberg for history, sausages and ginger bread.

We were in Berlin and Dresden the end of October.

We found Berlin to be okay, but not as enjoyable as Munich. Even the museums were not as good as in other major European cities. We were looking for good German food, but mainly found sub shops, American fast food and Vietnamese restaurants everywhere.

But we did take a 2 hour train down to Dresden, and found it to be an incredibly beautiful smaller city with wonderful museums. And we found some great restaurants too. We liked it so much we'll certainly be back to explore the Saxony region.

We've been to Munich many, many times, and it's always a very jovial place to be--with all the beer halls, etc. It has everything you're looking for in a vacation too. And the absolutely stunning Austrian Alps are just 2 hours by train south of there.

Consider reducing a day or two in Berlin and going to Hamburg. 3 hours north by train. Or spots around Munich.

Stick to Berlin and Munich, Hamburg is OK, but not like Berlin and Munich.

A stopover in Nurenburg would be good.

Hi,

I suggest keeping your original plan of spending 5 nights in Berlin. See the other areas of Berlin aside from just Mitte. Historic Berlin is mainly east of Brandenburg Gate. If you want the Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants, you'll find them especially in Wilmerdorf, Charlottenburg, especially on Kantstrasse.

Go out to eastern Berlin areas ie, Berlin Ostbahnhof , Jannowitzbrücke, even more. Customers in these places are exclusively German.

One of my favourite German restaurants with a turn of the century atmosphere is in Koepenick, next to the Rathaus. Take the S-Bahn 3 from Berlin Hbf. From the S-Bahn station Koepenick to the Schloss (chateau) , ie that 40 min walk or so are more German and italian restaurants.

The oldest restaurant in Berlin near Alexanderplatz, (walkable) "Zum letzten Instanz" frequented by locals and some tourists, have been there a couple of times at dinner. Closer to Alexanderplatz is Nikolaiviertel where the very popular restaurant serving Berlin cuisine "Mutter Hoppe" is located, expect that place to be crowded.
