Germany Trip late July 2018

Looking for suggestions for some must see places for Germany. We will be picking up our son from a year studying abroad so our first stop is flying to Munich or Frankfurt depending on flight costs. He is in Konstanz, Germany and we would like to rest up and explore where he has lived over the last year for a couple of days. We will not be renting a car but trying to do train or other forms of public transportation we have approx. 15 days. Our son would like to take us to Neuschwanstein Castle and Munich he also mentioned possibly heading to Austria. I know from prior travels cramming to much is bad and exhausting. I would appreciate any input and must see things within that region. Flying home from another city is preferable for us just which one lol! Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Have you considered flying into Zurich? Seems a lot closer. Time is money.

Hi,
I agree with Stan's reply above. I live in Southern Germany. Munich - Konstanz by train takes about 4 hours. Zürich Airport to Konstanz is a little over an hour. But if you are planning to do Neuschwanstein and Munich, I suggest flying home from Munich. It is a big modern, well-organized airport with good connections to the U.S. You could even do Salzburg out of Munich by train for a day, that is certainly a must-see in Austria. Have fun!
