Here is our plan not trying to back track and coming from Bolzen to Germany. We have 15 nts in Sept. Here is the order of towns Bolzen 3 nt, Mittenwald 2 nt, Fussen 1 nt, Augsburg 2nts, Rothenburg 2nts, Munich 2nts, Innbruck 2nts, Trento Italy 1nt to break up the travel getting back to Milan We will be flying in and out of Milan and spending 4nts in Verona before heading to Bolzen. Would you suggest to condense any of the towns instead of spending 2nts? The only reason we added Fussen was to travel north without having to take the Munich route....our thoughts were to go up one way and return the other. We also plan to spend 2 nts in Milan before flying out. Trip dates Sept 1 - 23. Any better suggestions for towns to visit in Germany instead are more then welcome...... Help!!! (we've been to Fussen and Munich before)
Were you planning to drive or use public transportation? The best way to go from Mittenwald to Füssen with public transportation is to go by train to Garmisch-Paartenkirchen, then take the RVO bus (pp 4-6) via Oberammergau. The trip by bus takes a little over 2 hrs. This entire trip, train and bus, can be done with a Bayern-Ticket (28€ for 2).
Alternatively, you could take the train (Außerfernbahn) from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Reutte and a bus from there. If you go via Reutte, you can use a Bayern-Ticket to Reutte, Austria, but you will have to pay for the bus to the German border.
Yes Lee all public transportation. Really it won't hurt my what do you think of our itinerary.....we sure have time to change things, would it be better to stay 3 nights in Garmish and day trip to Mittenwald?
Since Bolzen to Garmisch goes through Mittenwald anyway, I'd stay in Mittenwald. I think it's a nicer town (albeit smaller) than GaP. There are just over 20 minutes apart by train.
If you run out of things to do in Mittenwald, Seefeld, back up the line in Austria, is a pretty place to go.
