Germany to Italy or Italy to Germany

Hello,
Next May my sister and I plan on traveling Germany and Italy with the starting/ending cities being Munich and Rome. We are trying to decide whether we should fly into Munich and work our way down, or fly into Rome and work our way up. I have been to Rome before and know it is a lot of walking and can be a bit overwhelming, so I'm trying to determine if it would be better to start the trip off there with fresh legs or save it for the end, where we plan on staying a few nights and could take our time. Any thoughts/past experiences would be appreciated!

I would go with the best airfare. Personally it would not make any difference to us.

how do the flight times compare? Early arrival and late departure would be good. If there's no real difference, start in the south and head north - because that's what the warm weather would normally do.

If there's not a major difference in airfare, I'd hit the warmest destination first if traveling in the spring.

Id do the same- cheapest airfare. I do think it will make a difference either way.

Of course the lowest airfare and a schedule that works for you are both important, but don't forget the weather. I've experienced very cold weather in Germany in May. You might want to consider starting you trip in Italy and then traveling to Germany.

I'm with Lee on this one primarily due to the weather. I've also had bouts of cold weather in Germany that time of the year so I'd start in Italy and work my way up to Germany. Since you've been to Rome before, another advantage would be that you'd be in a familiar environment at the start of the trip when you'll probably be somewhat tired and jet lagged..

There's a tiny chance that some attractions may be in better shape later on. For example, our major interest when we go to the Italian Lake District will be public gardens and that sort of thing. Booking hotels can be tough there in high season. It depends on what you want to see the most - for example opera and ballet seasons, the beginning of "high season" in summer tourism. Are you ascending any mountains, for example in Garmisch? Hitting any places in Austria?

Hi,

Since the flight is in May, I would fly into Munich, if the the price difference is acceptable to you. Around mid-May 2018 or so, I'll be back in Munich.
