Germany Itinerary help

Hello!

My husband and I will be in Germany for two weeks in May. We will be arriving in Frankfurt and using the train as our mode of transportation. Please tell me if my itinerary sounds insane-

3 nights in Bachrach,
3 nights somewhere else-this is where I need help please,
4 night Munich,
4 nights Berlin,
Back to Frankfurt to fly out

So, does anyone have suggestions on where I should go after Bacharach? I was considering Baden-Baden, but I'm not really into the baths or casino. Would it be worth going there anyway? It looks pretty, but I'm not sure that's there is much we would be interested in. We love hiking and biking, so I don't know if that's an option. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Kristin

It isn't insane at all, but I wouldn't bother heading down to Baden-Baden if you don't want to see it. Either add a day or 2 on to Berlin, or consider spending some time in Frankfurt. Lots of history here (from the Celts & Romans, to the Holy Roman Emperor, Jewish culture, 1st German parliament, medieval churches and more) and the location is perfect for visiting some other towns that might be of interest. Büdingen, Gelnhausen, Limburg, Marburg, Eltville, Mainz, Heidelberg, Bad Homburg, or Idstein, for expample. For hiking, the Taunus mountains are perfect. You could even stay in Büdingen, Bad Homburg, Limburg, Marburg, or Idstein to get some hiking in.

I have to say that I enjoyed my 2 days in Frankfurt, lots to see and do. And I took Ms Jo's advice and did a day trip to Budingen and absolutely loved it, very medieval with city walls and half-timbered bldgs, cute shopping area and some nice restaurants. One of my best experiences in Germany.

I'd spend a couple or three nights in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which is just beautiful, or Nürnberg (from which it's easy to day-trip to Rothenburg). My only reluctance in recommending the former is that you're coming from Bacharach; if it were me, I'd want to alternate between city stays and village stays. Hotel Drei Raben in Nürnberg is very nice, and very central; we've stayed at Klosterstüble in Rothenburg three times and love it.

Mannheim/Heidelberg, Nürnberg? I am not the train expert here though, but these seem to be on the way and/or hubs. All great places...

What about three night in Wurzburg? One plus full day for the city with the Prince Bishop's Residence and the fortress, and one day for a quick train trip to Rothenberg. TC
