We are traveling to Germany in Sept, my husband is registered to run the Berlin marathon on Set 28th. We would love to explore that area as well as enjoy Octoberfest in Munich or wherever. So much info, not sure where to start in planning our itin. Our timeline is very flexible so open to ideas

Ask you husband how much time he needs to get over jetlag, relax and prep for the race. I'd say fly to Berlin first and get that out of the way. Oktoberfest goes until October 5, so you have plenty of time to get down to Munich. Start looking for a hotel now as they are in tight supply during the fest. And work on your bucket list of must-sees, then string them together in a logical geographic order. You can get just about anywhere in Germany on the train quickly and comfortably and usually cheaply.

Berlin has plenty of sightseeing to keep you busy for several days before the race. Other towns also have wine and beer festivals in that season, which you can find through the German Tourist Office.
