Germany, Austria, Switzerland tour hotels

We're thinking about booking this tour but we'd like to know the hotels in advance. Has anyone booked this tour recently that can help? Thanks

Been on half a dozen tours including GAS. Only rarely has there been a time when the accommodations were not acceptable. Perhaps quirky, perhaps quaint, perhaps up three flights of stairs, but always acceptable. And despite the quirky, quaint, and the stairs, it didn't kill us -- just added to the memories. If you are looking for info because you might go over early or stay late, that info is emailed to you with your tour confirmation.

pms,

It's just about impossible to determine which hotels will be used on a particular tour, as each tour uses several different hotels based on availability and other factors. A GAS tour departing today may use different hotels than the same tour departing next week. The best you'll be able to do is get a rough idea, based on reports from people who have taken that tour.

I've found on recent tours (not GAS), that the hotels used have all been very comfortable, with some being a bit more on the posh side.

Your best source of information will be the RS tour department. If you're really concerned about hotels, send them a note.

Thank you all for the replies. We don't need posh by any means but we're not comfortable with a shared 'down the hallway' bathroom, which seemed to be a possibility?

Been on 10 RS tours starting in 2007. Only had 1 instance of shared facilities and that was on the Scandinavian tour when we stayed on Aero isle. Wasn't bad in that B&B with 4 rooms sharing 2 bathrooms. Never was any issue with having access when needed. Shared facilities seem to be a thing of the past even in the remotest towns the RS tours go to.

The hotels our GAS tour stayed at were a fairly wide range of quality. Many were brand new. All were acceptable to me except for the one we stayed at near Munich. It was undergoing renovation and several things about it just were not up to expectations. Had a bathroom in every room, which was part of the renovation and the only part that was completed, but I have stayed in worse Motel 6's in the US.

I have never had a "shared bathroom down the hall* with any RS tour hotels over about the past decade. As I mentioned earlier, the hotels have always been somewhat "upscale" and very comfortable.

Again, your best source of information on hotels will be the RS tour department.

I did have a shared bath on my 21 day Best of Europe tour in 2014. It was the hotel in Stechelberg Switzerland. There was a previous discussion on this and an RS staffer replied that there are only a couple of tours where there is a shared situation. If I remember correctly the GAS tour stays in Muerren and that hotel is not a shared bath accommodation.

Only once in 6 RS tours have we encountered a shared bath. And that was many years ago when we just happened to stay in a real (not commercial) B&B in a private home.

pms12 call the tour office and ask them the same question and they'll give you an answer. They told me that they get this question a lot.

I think the Hotel Jungfrau in Mürren is the one they almost always use now. Very nice.

Shared bathrooms are really only a possibility when mentioned under the "Activity Level" tab for your specific tour itinerary. The GAS tour page does not have that warning. The shared baths that I know of are at one Swiss hotel on the Europe 21-day tour and one Aero B&B on the Scandinavia 14-day tour.

Thanks to everyone for the input. This tour is definitely on our 'possible list'.

We took the GAS Tour last May. The hotels were all much more than acceptable. I took pictures of the rooms and labeled most of them in my slides show here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFykOBisenI

Be aware that it is almost 30 minutes long and it contains segments from our pre-tour visit to Iceland as well as our post-tour visit to Prague that may be of less interest to you.

Pms12,

I took this tour in 2014. The tour hotels were all great. The one in Trier is part of a senior living center, so the rooms were like small apartments. No hotel was bad. As some one said earlier, you could always contact RS tour office to find out potential hotels on the specific tour dates you want to take. I enjoyed the trip a lot.
