Germany/Austria Itinerary

So I’ve moved from I might go to Germany next year to I probably will. The trip will be two weeks. Here is a rough itinerary. I would love suggestions on number of days and if I’m missing anything.

Fly into Munich several days there - priorities museums and the zoo

One day for Neuschwanstein

One day for Oberammergau and the Passion Play - this is the main reason for the trip

A few days in Salzburg - priorities Sound of Music, Mozart and the zoo

Several days in Vienna and fly home - priorities museums Lipizzaner horses and the zoo

Please don’t tell me I have too many zoos. There are never too many zoos.

FYI I will be traveling by myself.

From the Oberammergau region you can take the train from Garmisch Partenkirchen south to Innsbruck, explore a bit and head east that way and loop northward through Berchtesgarten to Salzburg. A bit more Alps and a bit less city,

For the Vienna Zoo, take the U-Bahn to the Schonnbrun Station. You can Visit the Palace and gardens, and then there is is an entrance to the zoo (oldest in the world) at the back of the garden. This zoo is huge and interesting. I would plan on a full day for the palace, gardens, and zoo. In Salzburg we did the Sound of Music Tour, and it was awesome. Not only seeing the places where scenes from the movie were filmed, but driving through some awesome scenery. The church where Maria and the Captain were married is in Mondsee, about a half hour drive from Salzburg, and it was some of the most scenic I have ever driven through. The Mozart Gebursthaus (where Mozart was born) and the Wohnhaus (Where he grew up) are both interesting. Many of the hotels have a free card (Salzburg card?) that has discounts (or free) admission to many attractions. The Old Town is an easy bus ride from practically anywhere.

You won't be near Berlin on this trip, but when you do go, in addition to the famous zoo, be sure to see the aquarium next door. I only went because my mother wanted to go, but we both ended up loving it, and I actually like it even more than the zoo.
