Germany/Austria/Czech Republic in December

My wife and I (both in our 60’s) are flying into Berlin 11/26 and heading back home from Prague on December 21st. We have a hotel in Berlin (11/26 - 12/1) and have this rough itinerary in mind: Nuremberg (I was stationed there in the late 70’s) ~ 4 nights; Budapest ~ (5 nights); Vienna (~ 5 nights); Prague (~ 5 nights). Along the way we intend to see a Christmas market (Nuremberg), a concentration camp (Dachau, Terezin, or ?) and a castle. We are most likely going to use trains for transportation due to the time of year.

Feedback on our itinerary and concentration camp & castle would be greatly appreciated!

I have been in all these cities in December twice. I have stayed in each city 5 nights..except Nuremberg...but it was 2 nights and I enjoyed the Christmas marts...I think one of the largest. I took the train from Vienna to Budapest..enjoyed the 2ish hour ride. Prague is one of my favorite cities. Strolling is wonderful! Also the marts and food in the main square are old world and the food is great! Budapest to me is exceptionally lovely..and walking across the bridge was like a fairy tale. I have been to Dachau twice..once solo..once with family. I went to Terazin with my niece..I wanted her to try to understand the history. I highly recommend both.

If you are in Berlin, consider going to Sachsenhausen instead of Dachau in Munich. The Soviets used this KZ after the war for many years, so many of the buildings are original. Alternative could be Ravensbrück, which was a KZ for women, also with all the original buildings. It is somewhat different from Dachau and Sachsenhausen because it was mainly women, with women guards, and the prisoners there were a mix of resistance fighters from all over Europe, spies, Jehovah Witnesses, Polish women, Russian soldiers, prostitutes, Roma & Sinti, as well as Jewish women.

While in Vienna, consider a side trip to Bratislava. The markets there are wonderful.
