Germany Austria crowds beginning of August

Hi, we have a wedding in Ireland July of 2018 and are thinking of spending a week or so afterwards in Germany and Austria. Curious how crazy busy it is there that time of year. How fast do restaurants fill up? How much is advance do you need to make reservations for hotels, dinner or major attractions. Also any thoughts on best airlines from Dublin to Munich?
rough plan: Fly into Munich, visit Mittenwald to Hallstatt to Vienna and fly out of Munich.
appreciate your thoughts! Kathy

It completely depends on the location. A big city like Munich or Vienna can absorb tourists outside the Oktoberfest peak. Smaller towns like Hallstatt can get overcrowded.

When in Sept.? Beginning, middle or end? Only Munich will be busy and full during the Oktoberfest. The rest of Germany is business as usual.

apologies... .wedding is end of July so we will be in Germany/Austria beginning of August. in the past we have traveled there in the beginning of September and found it to be nice, altho touristy places like Rothenburg were still pretty busy during the day when the buses showed up.

Just back from Munich and Salzburg and Garmisch....

Mid July trip....Munich wasn't bad at all, no issues with places to eat or museums.

Salzburg was packed...smaller city same amount of tourism so it felt overwhelming at times.

Garmisch was fine, no issues with crowds at all. We also visited Mittenwald, no crowds at all.

One thing to keep in mind...almost all shops are closed on Sunday in both countries as well as everyday at 6:30. There are still tons of places to dine as they stay open. It frees up,your evenings to relax and people watch from a lovely cafe.

Have fun planning!

Great hotel in Munich was Hotel Torbrau. We loved it and walking to everything was easy.
