If you are headed to Berlin between now and September , are a lover of history and classical music , and have an interest in delving into broad cultural issues , this museum show is worthwhile ( Dave and Fred , I was thinking of you ) - https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/08/arts/music/wagner-exhibition-deutsches-historisches-museum.html
Hi,
Thanks for the link...useful, informative, and a start for further reading.
"...broad cultural issues...." How true ! It's good and encouraging to see the Museum tackling this cultural and historical topic connected with its moral implications, all part of what the Germans label as part of a country's "unmastered past" (die unbewältigte Vergangenheit ) as with that pertaining to the USA., ie, dealing and recognising the unpleasantness and the skeletons in one's closet, what we call coming to grips with one's history, the comparable concept in German is "die Vergangenheitsbewältigung"
Oh, how exciting! I will definitely make time to see this - thank you, Steven!!!
Thanks for posting the article. I will be in Berlin at the end of next week! Not sure if there will be time for this exhibition (will be traveling with a 19-year-old making his first trip to Berlin), but I would love to see it.
