Germany Ancestry trip

We are traveling to Hamburg May 23, 2018 by train from Berlin. We want to rent a car and stay a few days in Hamburg area.

Any suggestions on Hotels that have parking?

Presumably the car will be used OUTSIDE Hamburg to visit the town(s) of your forefathers. I wouldn't want a car in Hamburg proper. Perhaps you should look for a room somewhere outside Hamburg if you need the car for exploring - and day trip into Hamburg for a visit there using public transport.

Lüneburg is a smaller place outside Hamburg - and a very pleasant one indeed. No idea whether it might be a good base town for exploring the stomping grounds of your ancestors, but it's worth seeing anyway. Here's a guide for a daytime visit to Lüneburg.

Thank you so much! Do you recommend that book?

We are planning to use the car after leaving Hamburg to head into the Schleswig-holstein area..stoping in Bremenhaven first..

Earl Steinbicker's "Day Trips" book for Germany is terrific. Not sure you need it for the limited trip you have in mind. Maybe pick up a copy from your local library and hunt down destinations on your path.

Anyway, if you arrive by train from Berlin in Hamburg, sightsee there, then leave Hamburg for good by car for Bremerhaven and more, then you don't have to concern yourselves with parking at your Hamburg hotel. We stayed within walking distance of Hamburg's main station (Hauptbahnhof) at Hotel Terminus 2 years ago and found it very convenient.
