Germany 2 week winter trip suggestions

My vacation plans changed suddenly and I am now headed to Germany for two weeks at Christmas/New Years. Looking for suggestions on where to visit. I prefer villages over large cities. I think I would like to explore Bavaria.

Bavaria is a great choice. The Winter is cold there, so take warm clothes, hat and shoes or boots. It gets dark at 4:30.

In two weeks you should be able to explore Munich, take in Salzburg, Austria with nearby Berchtesgaden, Germany. Also, Garmish and Fussen. Garmish is where you can go up to the top of the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze. People go up to see it and ski on the glacier. You don't have to ski to see it. There is a cable car or a cog train that goes up. There are castles in the area and Fussen. The Fraundorfer guesthouse in Garmish is a great place to stay and dine.

You will need at least one week to do what I described above. With another week, you could visit Nuremberg and Regensburg. Also, do The Romantic Road from Fussen to Wurzburg and see several great medieval walled towns and cities like Augsburg and Wurzburg.

We are arriving day after Christmas staying for 2 weeks. We were actually in Austria and Germany the same time last year so familiar with the weather. I actually stayed at a German farm house with only a wood stove for heat for 3 days. Fun times! Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into these as options.
