Inside the Residence there is the Pfälzer Weinstube (which I, being a frequent visitor, can recommend). It has limited space during the ongoing restauration of the Residence, but if you avoid the peek times you will find a table. Nearby are the Franziskaner (Bavarian food, the brutal way, but many Americans seem to like it) and the - a bit more upscale - Spatenhaus.
