German Rail Twin Pass

I am confused about which app would be best to use the DB navigator or Rail Europe. Can I put my flexi pass into either app? I don’t see how to do this & do I need before making reservations?

Not sure what your are referencing BUT Rail Europe is not a train company. Only a travel agency sell train tickets. So if you have a pass for Germany rail than mostly likely the app you would use is DBahn.

I think I have worked out what jsawyer means

  • DB (Deutsche Bahn) is the German National Rail company. They run most (but not all) of the trains in Germany.
  • A Eurail Pass is a pass which allows you to travel on the trains belonging to many railway companies. The pass money is split between the various railway companies. I guess you are talking about a "Eurail flexi pass"
  • Rail Europe is a travel agent in North America that sells Eurail passes. It doesn't run any trains.

For looking up train times in Germany (and most of the rest of Europe) I would recommend the DB App. Rail Europe is infamous for not listing all trains on its website, I don't know if the App is any better. Rail Europe uses am/pm and back-to-front US style dates. DB (like all transport in Europe) uses 24 hour clock and dd/mm/yy format.

That said, I don't know if a Eurail Pass can be stored in either App. DB App stores DB tickets, but these are not DB tickets. And the DB ticket inspectors devices will be set up to work with the DB App only.
You can make reservations at manned DB stations (for ICE and IC trains, others don't have reservations).

AFAIK a Flexi-pass must be on paper, as you have to fill in the dates you use it for.

Thank you very much. Will use DB app but since my pass is not integrated into the app, I can only make reservations at a ticket counter or kiosk, is that correct? Yes so I fill in my 5 dates of travel before using & have validated by ticket agent, correct?

1) You have the pass validated by an agent before using it the first time.

2) After that, you fill in each travel date before boarding a train that day.

3) Seat reservations are mostly optional and are sold at train stations or online, so you should also be able to use the app. On the regular DB web site, you would choose the link for "Seat only, no ticket." It doesn't care whether you'll use the reservation with a pass or with another ticket type.

Thank you, so I don’t fill in dates until each day that I will travel, but 1st time have agent validate my twin pass. Will look at app to try for reservation 😊

Yes, that train station is linked to airport Terminal 1.

There are two train stations at FRA, the Fernbahnhof and the Regionalbahnhof. The Fernbahnhof is farther out from Terminal 1 and services long distance trains (ICE and IC). The Regionalbhf is closer (under the building across the street from Terminal 1) and services mostly regional trains and the S-Bahn. Depending on where you are going (for instance, down the Rhein gorge in the direction of Koblenz), you might want to use the Regionalbhf.

Thank you everyone for your kind help. We are traveling to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday & stepping out of our “box” to do so. 🎉
