German Rail Pass

Our German Rail Pass, Twin, 1st class arrived today in the mail, yeah. We leave for Nuremberg, Rothenburg obT, and a wellness hotel in the Black Forest next week. Still confused over the pass though. Do we still need to purchase another ticket for a seat ticket on the train? And, our last days will be in Strasbourg, France. This pass is only for Germany. I am assuming at the Baiersbronn station we will be able to get tickets all the way to Strasbourg?
Will let you know about the wellness hotel. We have to go because they built a sauna in a tree! And, the pictures of their chocolate cake look mighty delicious.
Thanks for your help.

On German Rail trains, you never have to purchase another ticket for a seat ticket (seat reservation). You just get on the train and show the pass when the conductor comes around. Sometimes a seat reservation is desirable so that you don't end up standing in the aisle, but it is not required. If you want a seat reservation, it's 4,50€/seat reservation.

You can use your German Rail Pass all the way to Kehl. From there you must purchase a ticket (4,30€) for the rest of the way to Strasbourg. Your journey probably includes a stop in Offenburg; if so, you can purchase your Kehl-Strassbourg ticket there. If not, you might be able to buy it on the train. Or, you can purchase it in advance on the Bahn ticket website.

Just one nit to pick. Since you have a 1st class pass, the seat reservation fee is 5.90 EUR if you want to sit in the 1st class section. But I think that since 1st class has fewer people in it than 2nd class. it would have to be a very busy holiday weekend to have to stand in 1st class without a seat reservation.

If you go from Baiersbronn to Strasbourg via Feudenstadt, you use S-Bahn and SWE regional trains that have no 1st class, and regional trains do not have seat reservations anyway. If you go via Karlsruhe, the S-Bahn to Karlsruhe has no 1st class or seat reservations, but the connections from there to Strasboug are TGV & ICE trains which do have seat reservations. If you take the TGV, a seat reservation may be required.
