I'm confused about how to purchase and use a Deutche Bahn train pass for two adults and an 11 year old. Should be clear, but not. The DB website says that children under the age of 12 accompanied by a pass-holding adult rides for free but must have a child's ticket (huh?). But nowhere does it state where I get the child's ticket. Please explain how this works. We are planning on traveling for 13 days and am looking at a 4 or 5 day twin flex ticket.
Thanks. Is a ticket different from a pass? So when I order my pass on line is there a place to add the child's name?
I was just looking at this and I did not see it on the DB website, at least it was not obvious. I'd contact them via email and ask.
Thanks. I just did that. I'll let you know.
I have same questions on how to get the Child Pass. Just wonder if you have got answers from DB Bahn? Thanks
I never got a straight answer except the kid's name must be on the parents ticket. I just assume this happens at point of purchase
Sounds like it is best to purchase at the DB Reisezentrum located in major stations.
In the following link, it states that "per pass up to 4 children (6 up to including 11 years of age) can travel for free on CHILD passes." So what we need to find out is how to get the "Child Passes".

I have also just sent email to "[email protected]" regarding how to get the mentioned "Child Passes" when we buy German Rail Pass- Twin - Flexi.
Hope can get an answer from DB...
Before committing to a rail pass, you should really determine if one is necessary. Yor 11 year old can travel with you for free on standard (full fare) tickets, advance purchase Sparpreis tickets, Bahn all-day regional passes (Quer-durchs-Land-Tickets and Schönes-Wochenende-Tickets) and regional passes for a single German state (Länder Tickets).
In most cases, you can do better with standard, Sparpreis, and regional passes than with a rail pass. A four day flexible Twin rail pass would be over 76€ per day. Sparpreis tickets start at 49€ for all three of you from anywhere in Germany to anywhere else in Germany on express trains, QdL-Tickets are 52€ for all three of you, Schönes-Wochenende-Tickets are 44€ for all three of you, and many Länder-Tickets are less than 30€ for all three.
Thank you! I'm started to hear that about passes
I don't recommend buying the German Rail Pass on the DB site, because the shopping cart is confusing for entering more than one traveler (it works better for other tickets) and delivery by mail can also be a problem. If you buy the German pass here for home delivery by UPS, then you will enter children's names and ages at the time of purchase to include them on the pass. Purchasing in person in a train station should also be no problem.
