My husband and I want to travel to Germany in April for 2 weeks. He's German and I'm Danish, so would like to go both places. Would rather go with another couple, but don't know anyone who can go. Would it be better to book a tour? We prefer to go on our own time schedule and do a road trip, but are open to other suggestions. Given that we have just two weeks, what are your suggestions of where to go? TIA

Both do your DNA before you go! It's lots of fun to visit the home towns of your ancestors...who knows, you might find some live cousins to befriend. We like road trips ourselves. Study up on German driving habits and signals like that they want to pass you on the autobahn, etc. I'm 45% Germanic according to my DNA report. My German ancestors were easy to put on my family tree because it seems that they didn't move for 300 years. You can visit Churches and Graveyards and learn a lot of History of your families. My Wife and I were married in a town near Copenhagen, Denmark and loved that country. However, my favorite part of Germany is Bavaria, which quite a distance from Copenhagen.
Unless you visit another part of Germany, like Berlin, Munich, Fussen, Garmisch, Berchtesgaden (Salzburg, Austria) are the places to see, as well as going up the Romantic Road that passes through Oberamergau, Augsburg, Dinkelsbuhel, Rothenburg on the Tauber to Wurzburg. You can take a night train from Copenhagen to Munich, we did that 30 years ago. You could check out cheap flights.
If you don't go to Bavaria, check out the Rhineland, Heidelberg, down the Rhine and end in Cologne.
If you rent a car, you must take care of not staying in the left lane when someone overtakes you. They have the right of way. People sometimes drive over 100MPH to 150MPH. I had motorcycles pass me on the autobahn that must have been going 120MPH. Be careful.
