gengenbach to Seefeld austria

Hi all, Looking for the easiest way to get from Gengenbach to Seefeld Austria- is it possible to do this without going through Munich? I'm going to Munich later that week and don't want to backtrack. Also would like to cover new territory if possible, say by going south to Lake Konstance and then east- should mention I have a Bahn flexiticket and don't want to waste it- Don't think it would work on the Austrian trains?? Help! Calgary

You are right, German tickets only work in Germany and a few certain border cities like Salzburg.

Which Seefeld? There is more than one. If a town has a qualifier in its name please use it so that the unique place can be identified.

Do you mean Seefeld in Tirol? If you do, the only train is a small regional one once or twice an hour from Munich to Innsbruck over the mountains via Garmisch and is jointly run by Oebb and DB using DB trains, but not accepting DB passes in Austria.

So - if you need to avoid Munich you can go the long way around. You can take the little train from Gengenbach to Offenberg and change to the train to Basel in Switzerland, to Zurich and catch the Railjet from there to Vienna hopping off at Innsbruck and then catch the train mentioned above towards Munich and get off at about the 6th or 7th stop for Seefeld in Tirol.

Or go the other way from Gengenbach to the end of the Black Forest line in Konstanz and either cross the Bodensee to Romanshorn and Zurich and as above. Or from Konstanz stay on the German side (but it stays away from the lake) to Bregenz in Austria and as above.

Or you could go the easy way, via Munich....

Here's an itinerary that is so wacky I'd even do it. Take the RE train from Gengenbach to Konstanz leaving about 7 am and getting in shortly after 9 am. Take the lake boat (9:40 am) to Bregenz. It skips along the north shore of the Bodensee getting to Bregenz at 1:22 pm. It would be "possible" to get the 1:40 pm Railjet from the Hauptbahnhof a quarter mile from the dock, but it is just too close a change, so spend an hour or so visiting Bregenz before getting the 3:40 pm Railjet to Innsbruck getting to Seefeld (in Tirol) shortly after 7 pm.
I didn't say it was the fastest way, but you were looking for something new.

Thank you both for your helpful suggestions Would really love to see the lake- I'm also thinking of cutting a day off Gengenbach-from 3 to 2 so I would have more hiking time in Seefeld or cutting a day off Munich also from 3 to 2- Which one would you shorten or do you think 2 nights and a day and a half are enough for Seefeld?
