Genealogist needed in Osnabruck area

Four of us traveling to Germany in Sept. 2019. All of us have ancestors from the area of Osnabruck.

Hope someone knows of a genealogist that we can hire and provide contact information.

Start with the internet. There are Genealogy Professional societies that will have members that are available for a fee. Also check the Osnabruck web site for references to genealogy research. It also going to be very helpful if you can provide good names, spellings, date of births, etc. so that the genealogist knows where to begin and can be more effective. Ancestry.com has a foreign data base that I have NOT used so cannot comment on it's usefulness. However, US records would be useful in building the story. How much research have you done at this time? Did you follow through on the response you received earlier in March to the same question?

I can't tell from your post but have you been able to do much backtracking already? I would do all the research you can do ahead of time. You may have done that already but if not, there is scads of research available online.

As Frank indicates Ancestry.com is a useful tool but if you are not experienced with family research you need to be restrained in assuming other people's research is correct. I have also found a LOT on FamilySearch.org which is free. The problem with Familysearch is that anyone can go in and change your online family tree so I'd recommend you keep it on Ancestry and print out the documentation you find on Familysearch.

I also did some research at the Family HIstory Library in SLC and found astounding amounts of microfiche of German church records dating back to the 1600's. I was able to print out baptism and marriage records for relatives back to 1728. You can go to FamilySearch.org, click on Search -> Catalogs -> then just put in Osnabrück and see what pops up. If there are microfiche from the local church, you may be able to view them at a nearby LDS library (not available online yet). The LDS libraries are open to the public and their computers tie in directly with the Family History Library. You do not need to be LDS to utilize them.

Make copies of everything and document where you found it as that will save your Genealogist some time.

Sorry if you are further ahead in your research than this....

editing to add: OK, poked around and looked at your previous posts looking for genealogy for Italy and Ireland. It does help if you come back and make a comment after people have posted answers to questions. It's hard to tell if anything was useful or if things worked out in the other searches. I suspect since you had relatives traced in one instance back to 1850 that my information may be too simplistic for you but won't know until you are able to get back to the forum....
