Gate 1, Danube River Cruise, first time using this cruise line. 2 years ago we did the Viking's Rhine River cruise, which was very nice. Does anyone have experience with this cruise line? The Riverboat leaves from Vilshofen, stops in Passua, Regensburg, Linz, (or optional all day tour to Salzburg) Melk, Vienna, Bratislava, and ending in Budapest. Want to make sure we cover the best of these cities, not just what the cruise line picks. So any hints appreciated. Thank You.

Please note that Regensburg is upstream from Passau, the port of call from which the tour to Regensburg - by bus, not by boat - starts. So you are going downstream from Vilshofen to Passau, then backtracking to Regensburg. That means you will spend three hours of your valuable time in a bus. Likewise, the trip from Linz to Salzburg and vv. is 3-4 hours by bus. Since you will be back to the boat "in the early evening" you will note have more than 5-6 hours to explore Salzburg - barely adequate for all the city offers.
