I am planning a dream trip with 6 adults and 5 grand children ages 7-11. We have a family reunion in Berlin the first of august and then will be taking the train to Garmish for 3 days . We are looking for 4 double rooms in a moderately priced, clean, well located hotel. Or .. Would we better off to rent an air band b ? I d love restaurant suggestions as well . Id also like to know any tips on how to get transportation to the nearby sites .
The Fraundorfer has rooms also a nice place to dine.
Is that August of 2024? That is going to be tough to find, as this is a very popular destination for families. And are some of your family not going to G-P? Four double rooms will not accommodate all 11 people, even if some of them are children sharing beds with their parents. The lodging in Germany (and elsewhere) is by total number of people.
I think your best chance is going to be a holiday chalet or apartment, known in Germany as a Ferienwohnung, or FeWo for short. You could look for these an the AirBnB website, but I suggest you try the community website for listing lodging:
https://www.gapa-tourismus.de/en/Tourist%20Information
They have 599 FeWo’s listed, plus hotels and guesthouses. Not many will bbe available for your exact dates, but if you put those dates in it will show you lots of possibilities. But you will have to divide it into 2 units of there are more than 8 of you.
This is an example of what came up for 8 people:
This one will accommodate up to 9:
There may be different results and maybe larger units available for your actuall dates: I just chose random ones.
How nice of you to help ! I’ll check out the hotel you suggested. As well as air b and b since we are 11 people

Zum Wildschütz. A local favorite offering hearty Bavarian dishes. Great for families with a cozy atmosphere.
I recently stayed at a VRBO in Garmisch with my son and his wife that served our needs quite well, but would be a bit small for your group. There are quite a few listings for Garmisch and I suggest that you put your days in and take a look. I know you will love your time there.
Another alternative, if you qualify, is the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort which is very much set up to cater to families. You need a familiy member to be retired military, active duty military or certain DOD jobs. I stayed there once with my sister in their cabins and it was quite nice.

August is high season with high prices. You might check some hotel searching websites to get some ideas. I think this late 4 double rooms in the same hotel is unlikely for a central local. Farchant area... Farther away but the new tunnels have diverted traffic and what was once a heavily trafficed place might be something to consider? You could contact the Tourist Information Garmisch-Partenkirchen too.
