Hi all - heading to Garmisch from Munich by train. Can we plan to use busses/shuttles/trams to get around to different hiking areas, lifts, and towns? Or should we plan to get a car? Early research seems to indicate that no-car is a possibility.
thanks in advance!
We have been there 3 times for hiking, always without a car.
I’ve stayed there twice ( total of ten days) and public transportation works great. For the odd time it doesn’t, you can call a taxi.
We used the “D” ticket on our last trip. Very convenient and a huge money saver.
We will be in Garmish for a day trip in April prior to an Amawaterway cruise. I am just wondering if you would have any suggestions for the day other than hiking? It is such a beautiful area we would like to visit just not sure what we are planning on doing yet.. Thank you
Mittenwald is lovely - and just a short train ride from Garmisch. Details for a visit below:

Scroll down further on the same page for information on reaching the Zugspitze from Garmisch.
In G-P, the Fraundorfer Inn is a good place for Bavarian food and entertainment:
@ Cheryl. The Zugspitze is a great way to spend time on your day trip and really doesn’t involve hiking.
