We are returning a rental car in Garmisch next month and traveling to Innsbruck for a night. This is our first trip to the area and trying to decide between Flixbus or train. The bus is one hour faster but not sure which is more comfortable and scenic. Any advice on either mode of transportation is appreciated. Thank you.
Until April, 21 there is a replacement bus between Garmisch and Mittenwald, and the overall travel time is approx. 2 hours. Under favourable conditions you can do Garminisch - Innsbruck in one hour by car, but i doubt that it's true for a bus too, considering the steep descent down the Zirler Berg. Moreover, Flixbusses are not especially well known for ponctuality. From Seefeld onwards the train always runs along the cliff edge with beautiful views into the valley. But whether train or bus, look for a seat on the right side.
I'd go for the bus, less fooling around getting on/off transportation. We took flix from Mittenwald to Munich airport. Early pick-up by 5 min but within specs of reservation info: clean, comfortable, uncrowded (5 passengers), ontime. Even if it runs late as road transport can is it a essential to get to destination ontime? (We went to airport day prior for early am flight).
Thank you for your help! I just bought two tickets on the bus, upper deck, front row, right side for the view. I appreciate the tips!
