Garmisch Hotel

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Garmisch for a 3 nite stay in late October. We would like the hotel to have a lift & be near the train station. Someone had recommended the Edelweiss in another posting, but it appears to close on Oct 15.
Thanks in advance.

Hotel Wittelsbacher Hof is lovely and has a lift. I don't remember where it is in relation to the train station, but that was a trip I only remember taking one taxi after getting off a train, and that was in Munich.

Walter, there are many lovely hotels and guesthouses in GP. The train station is only a block or two from downtown Garmisch and a few blocks from most of the Partenkirchen hotels. Hotel Vier Jahrezeiten is directly across the street in front of the train station if that is your main priority. Once we stayed at a b&b right near there and were happy to be near the train station because we did several daytrips on the train. I have never stayed at the Vier Jahrezeiten but it looks good and gets good reviews. I booked Hotel Garmischer-hof for some relatives of ours and they were very pleased with it and its restaurant. It is about two blocks from the station directly in downtown Garmisch. They have a sister hotel, hotel Bavaria, that also catches my attention. I don't know if any of these places have lifts but you can email them to ask. Have you seen this website, www.gapa.de? It is loaded with information about the area and lists lots of accommodation choices that fit many different budgets. When you stay at one of the GP hotels or guesthouses you get a free pass for the local bus system. That can come in handy especially on a rainy day.

I've stayed in the Vier Jahreszeiten. Despite the name, it has no relation to the international Four Seasons chain. It wouldn't be my first choice, but it's a perfectly acceptable hotel and it is right across from the train station.

The best hotel where I've stayed in town is the Atlas Grand, on the Partenkirchen side. It's located on the nicest street in town (Ludwigstraße), but about a 10-15 minute walk away from the train station.

Hotel Wittelsbacher Hof is lovely and has a lift. I don't remember where it is in relation to the train station, Reasonably close, probably about a 5 minute walk away. The decor in this hotel could use an update, but it does have a nice indoor pool.

Hi Walter- I went to Booking .com and found 3 hotels that are within 3-4 blocks of the Bahnhof and meet your criteria. All have a lift, are non-smoking, and breakfast is included. Prices ranged from 300 to 450 € for three nights during the last week in October. Have a great trip...

The Edelweiss is out of the question for non-local military personnel or retirees. Don't bother thinking about it. Other hotels in Garmisch are often cheaper and nicer anyway. I like the hotel on the Riessersee as well as the Frauendorf in Partenkirchen.
