G7 conflict

We're scheduled to tour Bavaria and just realized the G7 Summit is being held there. Should we change our plans?

Are you planning to stay at the Schloss Elmau near Garmish? The G7 will be held at that luxury spa resort.

If you are not, then you have nothing to worry about.

Schloss Elmau is isolated far off the main road between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. You can't even get anywhere near it without being a guest or hiking to it. I doubt you'll even notice.

I do know of one change due to the G7 summit. The Army has requested that the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in G-P, not give any of its usual day bus tours during the G7 conference. If you weren't planning on going on any of those tours, I don't think it will be an issue for you.

I lived in Denver when the G7 (G8?) conference was held and other than the library being remodeled for the conference, there was little overall effect on us. Some of the dignitaries went to the Fort restaurant for dinner one night, so it was probably closed to the public, but nothing else.

As long as you are not in GaPa, you probably won't notice a thing.

I would do some more searching. Some sources seem to indicate that travel in the area will be either restricted, or you will run into security checks. A couple of sites that do tours to Neuschwanstein have raised the possibility that they may be closed. When the G8 met near Baden Baden, a significant portion of the area was essentially shut down.

Best advice would be to call hotels r inquire at the sites of attractions you are planning on and get their take.

Thank you all for the advice. We have researched and the two tour planned have been cancelled. Fortunately, we can go directly to Salzburg and see then see the castles after the G7 is over. Happy travelers once more!

The official Neuschwanstein Castle website https://www.hohenschwangau.de/765.0.html clearly states "Unfortunately there will be no guided tours through Neuschwanstein Castle from June 4th until 9th 2015. "

If my tour company told me it "may" be closed I would find a new tour company :-)

More information: There are demonstrations anticipated in Ga-Pa during the G7 time period. If you are visiting there and find a demonstration forming in your location, I encourage to walk away and find a different spot to hand tight for a few hours. You can check the US Army website for Ga-Pa for further updates.

Oh no, I hope the anarchist scum who usually cause a riot at these things stay away from GaP! I would hate to see one of the most beautiful places on Earth get trashed.
