My wife and I (early 70's, good condition), will be driving from Fusson to Colmar, France in the middle of September 2015. We will be in Colmar for two nights. We have to be in a small town, Eloyes, one hour east of Colmar on 20 September. Driving time on Google seems to be about 4 1/2 hours to Colmar. We're not in any particular hurry to get there and would like to do a little sightseeing on the way. Lake Constance seems to be an attractive area, perhaps for a lunch stop. It appears that we will be driving through a small portion of the Black Forest on our way to Colmar. (East to west). We plan on leaving early morning and arriving in Colmar around five to 6 PM. Is Lake Constance worth a stop? Or should we spend a little time in that section of the Black Forest, or both, or something better? (realizing that we only have about 5-6 hrs of lunch/sightseeing time). This is only a few days of a month-long Germany vacation. Thanks.
Eloyes is over the Vosges mountains WEST of Colmar. The roads, in my experience, across the Vosges can be rather slower than you may expect. They can be winding, hilly, and there can be slow farm and other traffic on them. Best to leave a little extra time for that journey.
Where is Fossoy, in France? You'd hardly need to go through the Black Forest to get from Fossoy to Colmar.
Do you mean Füssen, in Germany? I'm not trying to be picky, but it would really help you if you spelled the places to which you want to go correctly.
"Is Lake Constance worth a stop?" Lake Constance is a pretty big area, and full of sightseeing venues. Lindau, Friedrichshafen (Zeppelin Museum), Meersburg, Konstanz are all worth a stop, as are multiple places in the Black Forest.
Thank you for the road information. Have been a little concerned about that. I will have to study up on east v west :)
Lee,
I did misspell Fussen as Fusson...but not Fussoy? Yes, Fussen, Germany.
We spent 5 days near Lake Constance last year. Plenty to see. Lindau, Meersburg, Birnau church are all worth seeing.
