Fussen to Zugspitze driver

Hi! For a trip in July, I'm hoping to stay in Fussen then take a (half?) day trip to go up the Zugspitze. Party of 5 - 2 adults & 3 teens. I do not want to drive. Please don't suggest train or bus. I've checked options for organized tours but they all seem to include going other places as well.

I'm looking for suggestions for drivers or taxi companies I can arrange this with. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Rome2Rio provides the taxi option and includes contact information for providers. Their cost estimate for a normal taxi, destination Seilbahn Eibsee, Grainau is upwards of $160 each way - for a normal taxi of course. But it sounds like you might requre a larger vehicle.

The Zugspitze and Neuschwanstein (the carrot that often draws visitors to Füssen) both figure heavily in some itineraries. Linderhof Palace does too sometimes. Those seeking to reach these destinations from a single base town using public transport should look into Oberammergau, which does provide somewhat reasonable journeys to these places and others as well..

Thanks all. I looked at taxi companies and the private tours but they are pretty expensive. The bus is over 2 hours which doesn't sound fun. I considered staying in G-P but didn't want to be changing hotels nightly. And I'd still have to get to Fussen at some point.

So I just might have to rent a car and drive. Anyone with personal experience driving the route from Fussen to G-P? Is it fairly easy? Or a lot of small roads, mountain driving etc.
Thanks again!

Rick Steves suggests the travel base of Reutte, just across the border in Austria, a town which splits the difference between G-P and Füssen. It's a quick and direct bus ride from there to Füssen.

Reutte Bahnhof > Füssen Bahnhof = 26 min. on Bus 100 (8:05 - 8:31, for example.)

Staying there would also mean a direct train ride to G-P.

Reutte Bahnhof > G-P = 56 min. by train (9:01 - 9:57, for example. See DB.)

If the Zugspitze is your goal, you don't have to travel all the way to G-P. That same train line from Reutte will drop you off at Ehrwald Bahnhof after 29 minutes (9:01 - 9:30, for example. See DB.)

The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn ascends the Zugspitze from "Zugspitzbahn Talstation" (the base station) which lies a few minutes outside Ehrwald. You can see this lift (in red) on the map below - look to the left of Ehrwald:

You can walk there in 40 minutes... or you can take advantage of the bus connection...

Local buses take 6-12 minutes to get you from Ehrwald Bahnhof to the base station and run around the clock (9:34 - 9:45 for example.) See schematic for local buses:

So if Reutte were your base town, you'd be ready to ascend the Zugspitze in just 44 minutes.

Do the Zugspitze trip from the Austrian side, in Ehrwald Austria.
