Fussen Hotels near Neuschwanstein Castle Recommendations?

We are arriving in Fussen, Germany Saturday afternoon and then we tour the Neuschwanstein Castle Sunday and afterwards leave for Munich, Germany. Any suggestions on a hotel or where to stay Saturday night? Is there a place to store our small suitcases as we tour the castles on Sunday, since we'll need to check out of our Saturday hotel?
Thanks.

A good traditional hotel in Füssen is the Hechten. They should store your luggage until you come back from Neuschwanstein. Otherwise, there are lockers at the Füssen station (DB run ones at the platform, privatly run ones inside the building).

You didn't ask, but. . . If you are going to Neuschwanstein, my recommendation would be if you have time to do Hohenschwangau as well. They are right by each other. Hohenschwangau was actually lived in by the Wittelsbachs. It is lovely inside and every room is decorated. You will get a lot of information about Ludwig II which will make Neuschwanstein more interesting. Don't get me wrong, I believe Neuschwanstein is worth a visit, but it is unfinished and never lived in, and the tours are crowded.

I'll second the Hotel Restaurant Helmerhof in Schwangau-Horn. I've stayed there twice and first saw it for it's food on Bavarian TV.

Thank you! Yes, we have tickets to tour both castles. We do not have a car, is it feasible to get out to those hotels outside of Fussen?

Horn: The bus that goes approximately hourly from Füssen Bahnhof to the stop at Hohenschwangau stops in Horn after 4 minutes. The stop is about a 4 minute walk, 300 m to Helmerhof.

The Bahn query webpage shows bus connections as well as train connections. If you put in "Füssen Bhf" to "Horn, Schwangau" you will see the schedules of those buses. If you click on "details" for one of the connections, then "maps", you'll see where the bus stops in Horn. Then go to Google Maps for "Horn, Schwangau, Germany" and you can map out the route to Helmerhof. You'll also see a number of other accommodations in Horn. I haven't stayed at any of them, but from my experience in German, almost anyplace is going to be fine.

You can use this method to find out how to get to any of the places suggested. If you find an address, you can input that into the Bahn webpage and get the entire route, including the part on foot. If you want Horn, be sure to include "Schwangau" because there is another town in Germany called "Horn".

If you can forgo the in-house restaurant and spa, it looks like Schwangauerhof, on Füssenstr. is closer to the bus stop and less expensive.

The bus from Füssen Bhf to Horn goes on to the bus stop in Hohenschwangau, below the castle, in another 4 minutes.

If you have time in Füssen, there is a path near the Filialkirche Unserer Lieben Frau am Berg that takes you to the top of the Kalvarienberg. On top there is a Chappelle carved into the mountain and a very nice vantage platform with good views of both castles and Füssen (about a half hour hike one way). With more time the route down to the Schwansee is very nice with good castle views too.
