Füssen/GarmishPak/or Mittenwald help me pick!

I have 3 nights to visit the area in question. I will have a rental car. I want to visit the castles and Linderhoff Palace, church @ Wieskirche, not necessarily the Zuzspite. I would like nice accommodations preferably with balconies and view. I can’t decide if I want 2 night in Füssen and 1 in GP or vice versa. Then I had a recommendation to stay in Mittenwald instead of GP. Please help!

I haven't stayed in Fussen or Mittenwald, but I have stayed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen twice and really enjoyed the experience. It is a nice mix of small city and beautiful scenery with many choices for accommodations and activities. The good news is that I don't think you can go wrong here. I think you will have a great experience in Bavaria which ever places you choose.

You can reach the castles from G-P as well. I think there may even be some tour bus services from there for that visit as well. With the Zugspitze right there, I would spend all three nights in G-P.

With a car, I’d choose Fuessen. We’ve stayed twice and love the old town. The Zugspitze from the Austrian side is close by and easy from nearby Ehrwald, Austria.

I have to say I love Mittenwald also, but think Fuessen is the more convenient choice.

Thank you. Where did you stay in Fussen? My husband wants air conditioning in all of our accommodations and that is limited in Fussen. We will be traveling in September

With a car you could stay in Oberammergau or Innsbruck too. They're both about 30 minutes from Garmisch. Since there's no passion play this year Oberammergau should be a good bet, as they have the accommodations.

We stayed at the Best Western Fussen a couple weeks ago- it was nice (looks better in person than the pics on their website), has AC and underground parking. Great base.

We stayed in Füssen at Hotel Sonne for 2 nights and can recommend it. It offers an excellent buffet breakfast. Also, it has air conditioning and an on-site restaurant which was very good.
