We will be staying a night in Fussen this summer and were actually there to see the castles 25 years ago. This time we will be traveling with my sister and brother-in-law who are interested in seeing the castles, particularly Neuschwanstein, from afar for the view. Nobody in our group is interested in touring them. Any suggestions on where to or how to get the best view of Neuschwanstein? Or any other recommendations for the Fussen area - we will not have a car.

Go into the village of Hohenschwangau, where the castle ticket kiosk and the castle Hohenschwangau are and take the bus (leaves from just up the hill from Hotel Müller and the loading point for the horse carriages) to Mary's bridge (Marienbrücke). That looks down on Neuschwanstein.
