We have a day and a half in Fussen. Wondered how others spent their time here. Is it worth seeing both castles? How about the museum? Anything else you did that was fun? Would like restaurant recommendations too. Thanks! Going in June
Castles aren’t in Fussen ... short bus ride or taxi away.
You have an overnight here? Look at these hotels which are not in Fussen but in Schwangau with views across the meadows to the castles. Really really nice countryside.
Füssener Kalvarienberg walk/hike from Füssen or Schwansee. A church cut into the rock at the top of the mountain with viewing platform. Good Füssen, Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau views.
In Schwangau near Füssen is the Hotel Helmerhof. I first learned about it watching German TV for the food there.
I enjoyed the museum more than the castle.
@ Tim can you walk to these lodgings from Fussen or do you need a car?
You’re in Europe where walking is just what you do :-) it would be a long walk, more enjoyable as a bike ride - and those hotels have bikes. Local public bus goes from Fussen main station to castles, then on to tegelberg and then winds back around through the hotels and back to the station.
Tim, one of the things I love about Europe is walking and public transportation although these lodgings may be a bit far for my taste. Thanks for replying to my question.
Thanks everyone! We were looking forward to walking or biking so good to hear it's a nice area for that. We're on the Rock Steve's Alpine tour so our hotel is set already.
And if you’re on an RS tour then your transportation is provided also. Where does RS have you staying?
We are staying at Zum Hechten. It’s a my way tour, so we get the convenience of transportation and lodging, and the freedom to roam where we want
