Fuerth, Germany

Looking for recommendations for lodging in Fuerth, Germany. Thanks!

I stayed in Fürth in 2007. It might be difficult to find accommodations there today. The neighborhood has become somewhat of an "international" area. Most of the women you see will wear head scarfs. The pension I stayed in was an apartment house; everyone on the mailboxes was named "Filipan".

This webpage has lists of accommodations in Fürth. I stayed in Pension Central. I'd stay there again, but the host spoke no English (I think he was Bosnian).

While this is no problem at all (there is, e.g., a new NH opposite the station), Fürth is virtually dead after sunset. Adjacent Nürnberg, accessible easily by regional train and U-Bahn, offers a much wider selection and a more pleasant stay.

We have family that live in Fürth. We have stayed at the Hotel PrimaVera Parco a few times and it is not bad. http://www.hotel-primavera.de/ These buildings are old German, then American barracks and HQ buildings, but all is renovated. This old base area (torn down) is now hundreds of modern apartments and a high cost rent or own area. Fürth is the last stop on U1. It's a 10 minute walk to the Stadtgrenze U1 station to the Hotel PrimaVera Parco. We have also stayed at the Quality Hotel Bavaria: http://bavariahotel-fuerth.de/ Nothing to write home about, but OK and close to the U1 station at Jakobinenstraße. I agree that there is not much going on in Fürth, but the Hotels are cheaper than Nürnberg. Honesty we usually end up in Nürnberg for the day too. If you take the U1 or walk a distance from Altstadt Nürnberg, you can check out the Schanzenbräu Schankwirtschaft. Nice Biergarten im Sommer and really local Bier and experience: http://www.schanzenbraeu.de/schankwirtschaft.html

Thanks so much for your advice! My father was born in Fuerth, so this is a nostalgic journey.

Just want to say the neither of the hotels I mentioned are in the actual Fürth Altenstadt proper and walking is required to the Altenstadt and UBahn stations. Check them out on Goggle map. Look for the Südstadtpark too for the old base area.

So was Henry Kissinger.

While this is no problem at all

I never said it was impossible; I do think it might be difficult. Of course, if you are willing to throw unlimited sums of money at accommodations (e.g., NH), you can usually find something.

Pension Central seemed a little strange when I stayed there in 2007. It was basically a big family apartment building with individual apartments, all with the same last name on the mailboxes, interspersed with quest rooms. But the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water for my shower in the morning. Judging from the website, it has been considerably remodeled since then. A single room starts at 39€; I think it's a hidden bargain.

It was a couple of blocks from the Fürth Rathaus U-Bahn station and just over a km walk to the Fürth Hauptbahnhof.

Actually, looking at the Fürth website, there seems to be more places available now than there were in 2007.

By the way, I don't care if it's dead after dark, as long as there are restaurants open to get dinner. After that, I'm in my room, writing in my journal, updating my website, posting to Rick's, figuring my expenses. I go to bed early so I can get up for an early breakfast and be on my way.

So was Henry Kissinger.

Who is, btw, still a member of the once famous local soccer club. When he speaks german, he has still his franconian accent. ;)
