What is the best way to go from Cologne to Arksbug Castle on a daytrip? We will be in Cologne the second week of May 2015.
According to the information I have found so far a trip by KD on the Rhine would take too long. Is that true? Should we go by train? We won't be driving.

I hope these are just typos. It's the Marksburg Castle, in Braubach.
The boat would take w-a-y too long. Take the train to Koblenz and change to a train headed for Wiesbaden (also St. Goarshausen). There is also a bus from in front of the Koblenz Hbf to Braubach.

Braubach is a pleasant town for a meal and a look around as well.
I would also suggest getting off the train in Linz am Rhein on the way there or back. It's got maybe the most attractive collection of half-timbered buildings and old-world structures of all the Rhine villages.
