Freiburg Wine Festival

Just wondering if anyone has been to the Freiburg Wine Fedtival before. We are staying in the Black Forest area and we're thinking about visiting for this event. Any suggestions or opinions on this event? Does anyone know the cost of attending or the price of wine approximately?

I also noticed that it seems that the festival is from 17:00 through 24:00 or 01:00 of some days. Is this correct? I am having trouble finding information in English and I'm currently traveling so your help is greatly appreciated!

Try using google translate. Starts Thursday July 6 with a ceremonial opening at 6 pm, wine tasting and a musical duo at the Theater Historisches Kaufhaus. Goes to midnight except to 1 am Friday and Saturday. 10 different stands/tents with what looks like a total of about 100 wine growers and restaurant/food vendors. 2 stages with musical groups performing until 11 pm. goes until Tuesday July 11.

I would expect that it is free to visit and glasses of wine for 3 to 5 EUR per glass, I'm guessing. I'd sure go if I was there.

I haven't been but have been to many other similar fests all over Germany and entrance is almost always free, the cost of wine will depend on whether they're pouring 0.1 or 0.2 pours but rest assured that it will seem ridiculously cheap by US standards. That area has some of the finest wines in Germany, so the quality will be quite high, too. Most Rieslings will be dry (unlike the Mosel/Rhine region) and there will be a surprising amount of red wines, too. If I was in the area, I'd go for sure.

Thank you both for your responses! Unfortunately google translate was being difficult so I appreciate your help in this area. We decided to rent a car and drive through the Black Forest during the day and then stop at the wine festival in the evening on 7/7. We are so excited and I appreciate your help with planning!

Of course, driving will limit your alcohol consumption. The blood/alcohol limits are 0.5% in Germany. Tour by train or bus and the sky's the limit :-)

Or get a room in Freiburg for the night. Driving in Germany is easy, but drivers are aggressive and the rules are strictly enforced!

wine festival and renting a car and driving to and from the festival are completely opposite. Unless you are teetotal and just going for the atmosphere. Do not drink and drive.

Thanks all! Ended up staying in Freiburg. Had a good time and would recommend wine festival to anyone in the area.
