Freiburg parking?

We are travelling with a rental car from Gengenbach and are wanting to visit Freiburg enroute to Staufen. Is there anywhere around Freiburg that we can park the car for 4 hrs or so to explore Freiburg?

Candace,

This may help - http://www.freiburg-home.com/about-freiburg/88-parking-in-freiburg

Have a look at this too - https://www.google.ca/search?q=freiburg+parking&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=N6gvWbTyLozTjwTDiajoBQ#q=freiburg+parking&rflfq=1&rlha=0&rllag=47992625,7858763,973&tbm=lcl&tbs=lrf:!2m1!1e3!3sEAE,lf:1,lf_ui:3

I was there last September but travelled by train so I wasn't really looking for parking. I'd suggest not driving right into the centre of the town, as the streets are narrow and you'll have to share the road with Trams.

The Minster is beautiful and well worth a visit, and there's a large street market outside that on some days.

Does the car you are driving have German license plates? If so, fine. It will have a green Umweltplakette and will be able to drive into the town.

If the car is not from Germany check if you have a round green permit on the front windscreen. If you don't have the permit you can't drive past the prohibition sign. Freiburg in Breisgau has a significant low emissions zone, which is what you need the sticker to enter.

Wih the exception of Munich, finding parking in most German cities is easy. Just follow the blue "P" signs. They will also usually indicate the nearest landmark and the number of empty spots.

PS: For Staufen, we parked at the Bad Krozingen banhof and walked by the stream all the way to Staufen, about an hour. Staufen is a gorgeous little place.
