We'd love to go to a market that sells handicrafts (actually I love one that has vintage items!). I' ve read of a great market in Freiberg but don't know if it's still operating. Can anyone advise and even recommend another? We'll be in Colmar, Ribeauville, Riquewihr, too.

Since you will be in Colmar, I assume that you plan to visit Freiburg im Breisgau on the German side of the Rhine, not Freiberg, which is in Saxony. Freiburg has an excellent website in English. Under "Excursions and Active" check out "Shopping". There you can find weekly markets and their opening times.

We took a delightful day trip from Colmar to Freiburg im Breisgau. From the train station, just follow Rick's self-guided walk for Freiburg and you will end up in the Münsterplatz - the main square with an outdoor market since 1270!
