Frankfurt to Wiesbaden

I have a very basic travel question. What is the best way to go between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden and Mainz? It looks like the S Bahn goes to each, but I’m not sure if that is the best way.

Thanks!

Normally, yes but not now. Are you traveling now? The S-bahns are not going into the Wiesbaden station because they blew one of the bridges up to repair it.
Use the RMV website to find the alternate ways into Wiesbaden as they have replacement buses I think at Wiesbaden Bieberer station. www.rmv.de

Ms. Jo-

Is the bridge being repaired the one normally used for direct travel on the bus (or by car) between Mainz and Wiesbaden? I used that bridge several ( 5-10 ?) years ago to both drive and ride the bus between Mainz and Weisbaden.

It ocurred to me that maybe one option for the OP is to use the S-Bahn for travel between Frankfurt and Mainz then use the bus for travel between Mainz and Wiesbaden...

Another option might be to use the train between Frankfurt and Mainz and Frankfurt and Weisbaden, This would mean the trips between Mainz and Weisbaden would require a change in Frankfurt...

Ms. Jo, I would also like to give you a big SHOUT OUT for your numerous contributions on various Frankfurt questions on this forum...

Thanks! This helps and explains why the S bahn map didn’t match up with the RMV site—it listed the bus and that’s what confused me.

Many thanks!

Mainz and Wiesbaden are across the river from each other. None of the trains are going directly into Wiesbaden from either Mainz or Frankfurt, which I know of. Buses are being used.

That must be the Salzbachtalbrücke, a highway bridge over the S-Bahn tracks between Wiesbaden Ostbhf and Wiesbaden Hbf. (The S-Bahn to Mainz and Wiesbaden go over the rivers on different bridges so it's not one of them.) There is a short video on Google Maps showing them blowing the Salzbachtalbrücke. Impressive. They piled a lot of what looks like sand on the S-Bahn tracks to protect them from the falling bridge.

Looks like they expect the bridge wreckage and the sand to be removed, and normal service restored by Christmas.

Meanwhile, it will take about 10 minutes longer, but if you wanted to avoid the bus, you could take the S2 to Niedernhausen and a regional train from there to Wiesbaden Hbf.

The S-Bahn into Mainz Hbf is not affected.

Edit to add: Wiesbaden Bieberer Bahnhof is a bus station on Kastelerstr. a hundred meters or so southeast from in front of the Wiesbaden Ost Bahnhof building. There is a tunnel under the tracks from the platforms to the building.

Trains are supposed to be able to use the Wiesbaden bahnhof again starting 22 Dec.

I just did this trip today so I could video the Wiesbaden Christmas market. It took almost 1.5 hours to get to Wiesbaden from Frankfurt, which included getting the replacement bus. Coming back to Frankfurt, same thing plus we had rush hour traffic. Huge pain in the neck. If you have mobility issues, forget it. Lots of stairs with no elevators or escalators, plus lots of walking.
