I’m going to be in Germany in October. This is my first trip there, and I want to include a visit to the small town of Runkel, on the Lahn River. What is the best way to travel from the airport in Frankfurt to a hotel, from hotel in Frankfurt to Runkel, overnight accommodations, and back to Frankfurt? Any advice is appreciated.

You can use the Deutsche Bahn website to plan your trip to Runkel.

I see it is about 2 hours from Frankfurt Haubtbahnhof (main station) to Runkel with a single change. It is a local network fare of 16.50 EUR each way.
You can use the local S-Bahn train from FRA to Frankfurt center city. At the airport, follow signs to Regionalbahnhof. It will have a train icon on the signs.
