Frankfurt to Frankfurt Hahn airport

Hello, Im trying to figure out the easiest way to get to the Hahn airport, I fly into Frankfurt main airport the day before. My flight from Hahn is at 1pm. Should I by a ticket for the journey from downtown Frankfurt to Hahn airport the day of or pre book, and what is a good time to leave to be stress free? thanks!

Ah, Frankfurt Hahn, one of the most deceptively named airports in Europe! It is neither located close to Frankfurt nor does it have particularly good transportation connections to the city whose name it for some reason bears. Currently, it has no rail service, so you would need to catch a bus. Rather than rehash all the information from the website, here's the link about bus transportation.

Apparently, that connection has been stopped. The only doable connection shown by the DB web site is by train to Mainz and then by bus to Hahn (dep 8:17, duration 1:59).
No preebooking possible. Just buy a S-Bahn ticket from any vending machine to Mainz and pay for the bus ride aboard the bus.

BTW, equally deceptive ist "Munich West" for Memmingen.

has anyone forgone staying in Frankfurt (i like it but ive been there a few times), and stay in a town that might be a little closer and easier to get to Hahn airport? I fly into Frankfurt international around 1200 and fly our of Hahn the next day at 1300

Not really a reply to your query: whenever I fly out of FRA back to SFO, I always stay in downtown Frankfurt. To avoid cutting it close, I time it correctly, so no problems getting to the airport three hours or earlier prior to take-off.

Here is a page from the Hahn Airport website showing bus connections to Hahn. And here is the page. (Ops, that's is the same URL that sla said didn't work, but it does!)

And here is the page from Bohr, the company that runs the buses between Frankfurt and Hahn, giving that schedule by days of the week.

Thanks for the correction. I was confused since clicking into the map (»Frankfurt«) brings up either an outdated time table from a company called »Intermezzo Lines« or does nothing. The green add above the map is the way to go. Splendidly designed web site of that world famous airport. I wonder why people want to start there. After all, there's a lot of low cost carriers flying from the »real« Frankfurt.

would it be a better idea to take an early train to Mainz and buy a ticket from there?

I don't think so. In contrast to the train you don't need to transfer somewhere and the trip is even a few minutes shorter than by train. But don't just take the last possible one of the busses since the roads in the environs of Frankfurt are stau-prone.
