Frankfurt to Budapest in 5 days!

My husband and I have to be in Budapest on a Monday in June for a wedding. We have about 5 days before that to spend some time traveling. We fly from the states into Frankfurt and thought about making our way to Baden-Baden then Munich and then train from Munich to Budapest which is about 7hrs. Would love to add in Salzburg and then train from Salzburg to Budapest but it might just be too much. Any suggestions for a route to get us from Frankfurt to Munich or Salzburg? We are flexible and open so just want to see what we can before. Thanks all!

Work backwards so we can understand. Is this right? You arrive at Frankfurt on a Tuesday morning, and on Sunday afternoon you need to travel to Budapest, for the wedding on Monday.
Tuesday, travel Frankfurt airport to Baden-Baden, 1 1/2 hour train with a change in Mannheim, spend 2 nights, giving 1 full day in Baden-Baden.
Thursday morning, travel to Munich, 3 1/2 hour direct train, spend 2 nights, giving 1 1/2 days in Munich.
Saturday morning, travel to Salzburg, 2 hour direct train, spend 1 night, giving an afternoon and a morning in Salzburg.
Sunday afternoon, travel to Budapest. 5 hour direct train.

Baden Baden isn't on your direct route. I'd suggest utilising the fastest direct trains available.

Day
1. Frankfurt to Munich (2)
2. Munich
3. Early train to Salzburg (1)
4. Evening train to Vienna (2)
5. Vienna
6. Vienna to Budapest

We actually can get to Budapest on Monday. Is adding Vienna too much or should we try to do it? Is Baden-Baden worth seeing if we can? We will always come back so just want to do something that feels doable. Thanks for your help!

If Baden-Baden is just some place you've heard about and were curious about visiting, I'd give it a pass. 5 nights is not much time. Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna would be rushed with not much more than a full day to see each one, but they are on a direct rail line between Frankfurt Airport and Budapest.
