We will be arriving at the Frankfurt airport August 4th at 20:45 and leaving the next day at 14:55. Would it be unrealistic to take the train into town after arriving on the 4th and get dinner since it would probably be close to 10pm? Or would it be better to try the next day early in the morning and get some breakfast?

I'll leave it Ms Jo for late night dining in Frankfurt, but I would definitely take a train into Frankfurt and get a hotel there for the night. It is only about 15 minutes from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof, not that you might take a change to a bit further on, like to Hauptwache for a little better neighborhood. You don't have to head back to the airport until noon, or a tad earlier depending on where your flight is going.

Yes, Ms Jo will have all sorts of ideas....
I'd definitely head into the town - just as fast as going to an airport hotel and much nicer. There is quite a lot to see.
