I am traveling to Frankfurt from Brussels for approx. 24 hours before catching a flight home from FRA. I am basing myself at the airport. Anyone with a dinner recommendation in the city or a must do while in FRA?
You don't say when in June you will be here, but these are the events happening in Frankfurt that month.
* 4-5 June Berger Strasse Fest, Frankfurt Lower Berger Strasse
* 10-12 June Rose & Tea Light Festival, Frankfurt Palmengarten
* 22 June-1 July Opern Platz Fest, Frankfurt Alte Oper Plaza
* 25 June SATOURDAY, Frankfurt Free Museum Day
* 25 June-8 July, Höchster Schloss Fest, Frankfurt Höchst
I would rethink staying at an airport hotel. It is much nicer staying in the city. It stays light until late at night, so sitting outside at a fest or cafe is the perfect way to end an evening. You could then stroll to your near-by hotel instead of needing to catch a train to the airport late at night.
What are your interests? Frankfurt has a wide variety of things to see, from medieval churches, farmers markets, turn of the century architecture, original half-timbered houses in the neighborhood of Höchst, one of the oldest churches in Germany, many Jewish cultural sites, and museums for every interest.
thanks this is helpful info... staying at the airport since we have an 8 am flight out.
The S-bahn runs every to the airport from the Hbf begining around 4:45 with trains every 5 to 15 minutes. It takes 10 to 12 minutes to the airport, so central Frankfurt might be even more convenient than an airport hotel. The hotel shuttles still take 10 to 15 minutes to get you to the airport.
Unless you are actually in one of the 3 airport hotels, (Sheraton & one of the 2 Hiltons) it will probably take you longer to get to the airport than staying in the city. The trains start running at 04:15 and take 11 min. from the main station, with a train every 15 min.
There are a lot better restaurants than zum Gemalten Haus. It is a super touristy place, similar to the awful Adolf Wagners.
Try Atschel or Dauth-Schneider in Alt Sachsenhausen, or Leib & Seele near the Hauptwache.
And if you are staying at the Hilton (or Hilton Garden Inn next to it) right at the airport, the grocery store nearby has a chicken-and-potatoes meal that's both tasty and cheap.
Thanks... we are at the hilton within the airport... would rather traveler by subway to the city and not have to deal with things early in the am.
@Jason (and anyone else looking for a great price at that airport Hilton.
I've been watching prices there for a few weeks. They're pricing high. I need one night there for a brief layover in January. At any rate - I was just doing my daily price check and rooms are 94 Euros if you book right now with AARP, AAA or senior rate. That's a really good price for that property. This is right on the Hilton site.
Yea, i got a room (advanced purchase) during the winter sale straight from Hilton (gold member) for like 115 euro... then last week on the flash sale it was down to 83 euro... sometimes you win sometimes you lose.
