Frankfurt hotel recommendations

Hi, traveling to Germany in March and looking for hotel recommendations that are close to a train station in Frankfurt. We will be staying a week and using Frankfurt as home base to travel out for day trips as well as visiting Frankfurt itself. Looking for clean and safe for two people. Open to any and all suggestions . Thanks!

In 2008, I had an early morning flight out of FRA and stayed at Hotel Königshof in Mainz. It's a nice hotel, I think the price is reasonable for that area, and it is a very short walk across the Bahnhofsplatz to the station. It's about 15 minutes farther from the airport than is the Frankfurt Hbf, but if you are going to be traveling out for day trips, that might not matter (It's actually closer to the middle Rhine gorge).

Last June we stayed in an Ibis (clean, inexpensive) that is about 3-4 blocks towards the river from the Frankfurt Hbf. The RS guidebook also lists several others near the station. Have a great trip.

It depends on your budget, but these are the hotels I usually recommend:
Hamburger Hof, Holiday Inn Express Hauptbahhof, The Frankfurter, Ibis Hotel on the Friedensbrucke, Hotel Monopol, Adina Apts. Hotel Victoria, Nizza Hotel, Concorde Hotel, Excelsior Hotel.

Do you need suggestions for day trips? Frankfurt is a perfect hub besides the fact that there is a lot to see in the city itself.
These are the towns that are within an hour by train using the local transportation tickets: Limburg, Idstein, Marburg, Büdingen, Gelnhausen, Seligenstadt, Eltville, Eberbach Monastery, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Friedberg, Rüdesheim, Bad Homburg, or Kronberg. Farther away but still not too far and accessible using cheap regional train tickets would be Heidelberg, Würzburg, Worms, and the Rhein. Happy Weekend Tickets or Quer Durch Deutschland tickets are good for these.

Thanks! I will research these all and see what fits us best. Right now, our day trip ideas are Würzburg, Koln, Heidelberg, Worms, Bamberg. I’ve been to Koln and Heidelberg but my travel partner hasn’t and I would love more time there. I’ll look at the other suggestions too. Thanks for all of the info!

Ms. Jo,

With respect to Adina Apartment Hotels, are you recommending the Westend location or the Neue Oper location? Would you happen to be familiar with their kitchens?

Thanks.

Hello- we are going to look at Air bnb as well and were wondering if there are any neighborhoods that we should look at first or any to avoid that may not be as safe as others

I doubt there are apt. rentals like that in the RLD, so you don't have to worry about whether a neighborhood is safe or not. The city is cracking down on this type of rental though.
Nicest residential neighborhoods would be Westend, Bornheim, or Northend. Sachsenhausen has some nice areas too away from the Applewine Pub district which could be noisy.
