It appears on the RMV and DB websites that the Regional Bahnhof station at the FRA Airport is temporarily closed and that Sbahn traffic has been diverted to the Fernbahnhof. It mentions "Umleitungen mit Ersatzverkehr" which I understand to be a detour with substitute traffic means. I am not sure if that only means that I will have to take the airport shuttle to get to Terminal 2 or something else. I am concerned about timing - how early to catch the Sbahn to get to the airport by about 7:30. Has anyone had any recent experience with this construction delay?
I just went to the airport 2 days ago from the Hauptwache. The S-8 and S-9 go to the long-distance station instead of the Regional station. There are free shuttle buses running between the 2 terminals.
There are signs directing you to terminal 2, either with the shuttle bus or the Sky train. I would use the shuttle bus. If you want to get to Terminal 2 by 07:30, I would catch the S-bahn at 06:43, which gets you to the airport at 06:59, and then you have plenty of time to get to Terminal 2. The next train is at 6:58, getting to the airport at 07:14.
It is actually pretty simple, just you end up at a different station than usual.
Thanks for the information, Jo.
