Frankfurt getting entrance where the 97th Officers Club was now it’s a u S consulate

We are celebrating our 40th anniversary in Frankfurt with our grown kids and their spouses in June 2020. My husband who was military in late 70s and I was a civilian working for the Corps of Engineers met at the 97th officers club and got married at the Römer 8/19/80. We even had our reception in the Officers Club.

We plan on writing to our consulate there but I was wondering if anyone has any other tips to gain entry to the old U S officers Club or the chapel there. My husband did go in their main building once when he lost his passport but it was restricted beyond that. Thank you.

Are you thinking of a renewal of vows? Perhaps contact the chaplain of the base where your husband served. They may have information on what happened to the officers club and chapel. The Frankfurt Römer is amazing!

They don’t renew vows in Germany. I once asked and the one lady said “why would you do that?” Lol!
No there’s no more chapel or 97th Officers Club . That closed down in the 90s. But the building is still there and it’s on the U S consulate grounds. We are going to write an email to the consulate but just wondering if anyone out there have any tips or know something about the Officers Club. You would have had to be stationed out there to understand what I’m talking about. We hung out there in late 70s and early 80s.

I have been here since 1986 and pretty much know where all of the military posts were located and have even been in 97th General Hospital.
The Chapel is now used for offices and gatherings. You cannot go inside the Consulate at all to look around.

I know where the Officers Club was located over at the Abrams Building and have photos of this from the 1950's, including menus. Is this the same Officers Club or was it a club actually located on the 97th General Hospital Grounds? I can take you to that building and club area. It is now the Goethe University and open to the public.

There used to be a small building at the front of the 97th Gen. Hospital grounds, but I believe they were using this as a daycare, possibly a lunch cafe. I don't think this was an Officers Club. With Gibbs, Drake, Edwards, and Atterberry right around the corner, there were plenty of places to go. This building was torn down a couple of years ago.

The Consulate is very strict about photos, so as a warning, don't go over there and take pictures. They are watching you and will come and make you delete them. Not only with cameras but also with plainclothes guards wandering all around the neighborhood. Yes, I worked there and can vouch for this.

The area where the PX and Commissary were located is now the Polizei Presidium.

Message me. I am sure I can help you with some of this.
