Apartment recommendations, 15 nights

Hi. Looking for recommendations for home base. We will be coming from Venice and will be wanting to travel around Germany to see some football matches. We will depart from Frankfurt; however, it looks like much of Frankfurt is pretty sketchy (based on reviews I've been reading). We won't have a car, so will need to be accessible to train stations.

Thanks so much, in advance!

I disagree strongly.

What reviews? Where?

I travel to Frankfurt multiple times a year and haven't been in any bad neighbourhoods yet.

Nigel, I've seen them all over Trip Advisor, different hotels. I've seen this numerous times, "...drug dealers and users surrounding the place...", ..."The review would have been 4* but for the location of the hotel. It’s approx 250M from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. First night in our room we witnessed at least 20 drug deals taking place in the street below our window. The next evening, walking back to the hotel a man being chased by a gang nearly got killed under a car...."

So, I'm trying to make sure we are in a safe, not sketchy area.

If you know of a good area, since you visit frequently, please share.

Thanks so much!

ronda, have you considered staying somewhere else for 14 days and then traveling back to Frankfurt for the last night? It would be helpful to know what areas of Germany you will be visiting while you are there.

I will say that Frankfurt does have the advantage of being somewhat central and very good train connections, though.

Have you looked at Rome2rio or Google Maps to see how far these football games would be from Frankfurt, and how long the return train trips would be? Another city may be more central to your needs.

Sure, Mardee. We'd definitely consider that option.

We're waiting on the Bundesliga schedule to come out to figure out exactly where we'll be able to see games, but will definitely travel to watch Dortmund (whether they play at home or away - that's a must team for us).

If you have any suggestions on where to make our home base, we're definitely open to that! :)

Thanks so much!

Stay at any of the lovely hotels near the Hauptwache instead of the Hauptbahnhof. Try Flemings, Hilton, Motel One, Ruby, or Moxy.
All of Frankfurt is NOT sketchy, not even much of it is sketchy. Stop looking at hotels near the train station.

I would add that this applies to much of Germany. Don't look for hotels by the Hbf.
